I had the honor of fasting for a week with my mothers church. I decided to give up my most treacherous addiction: SOCIAL MEDIA!

As a girls, girl , writer and social butterfly I can become engulfed in the socials very easily . I feel connected when I’m catching up with old friends, sharing my writing and laughing with strangers. I find myself throughout my day endlessly zombie scrolling to pass the time.
In actuality, I don’t need to be zombie scrolling. I have a lot to do. I have things to catch up on, writing to complete and a house to clean. I have family members to call and catch up with and appointments to follow upon … I have stuff to do!
We all do.
I think at times we use social media as a well needed escape and sometimes it becomes excessive. Therefore, I highly recommend a consistent social media fast.
Gratefully , my fast was the first week of the presidents term. Therefore I didn’t see all the changes, laws, freezes and orders being changed. Now, this doesn’t mean I don’t need to be informed. I needed to catch up, but It does mean a break from it all was refreshing.
I found myself more focused, less irritable and more level headed. My attention wasn’t being stretched in too many areas; therefore, I was able to clearly go about my week. Hence why I will ALWAYS recommend a regular social media fast. Whether it’s a day, a week or a month… please take the break. Use the time to focus on what’s in front of you in real life.
Struggling with the idea of "no social media" make plans for your time of fasting:
Read a new book.
Pray/Read your Bible
Call friends/family and catch up
Catch up on work
Go for a walk
Deep clean a closet
Learn a new skill
Take a class
There are many life fulfilling things you can add when taking a break/fasting from social media, even if only for a day or two. Be empowered.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
1 To everything there is a season,
and a time for every purpose under heaven:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to break down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to count as lost,
a time to keep and a time to discard,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
