This weekend I went home to pay my respects for the loss of a very close childhood friend. As heartbreaking as it was, it was also meant to remind me of the love I grew up surrounded by. I had a tremendous upbringing surrounded by laughter, care, support and most importantly...LOVE.
I had the opportunity to see childhood friends I haven't seen in at least 15 years. Although much time had passed, we all fell right back in as if it were just yesterday. It reminded me of the things I've been through over the past 20 years and revealed one of the deepest, darkest schemes over my life.
UNLOVABLE...
I could go on and on sharing the many details and heartbreaks I have experienced but I will spare you the details. What I will share it this :
"If the enemy convinces you that you're unlovable, there's no need for him to disrupt your purpose... you'll never pursue it."
Baby, what a smack in the face...
As jovial, content, and empowered as I have been feeling, this weekend revealed there was a little more brewing. I was reminded of a few core inconsistencies that internally challenged my ability to feel loved. Similar to an allergic reaction, you don't know your body's inability to process peanuts until you eat a peanut and your throat closes up. Inherently, I didn't realize I was struggling feeling "loved" until I was surrounded by it again.
The King James Version of the Bible mentions "love" 555 times. This must mean love is important to God. But why?.. I am happy you asked
If you don't feel loved then whatever "purpose" The Lord has placed over your life will be impossible to achieve. You'll be stuck with fear. You'll be insecure and unstable. Love is the foundation in which we grow. How can you paint, write, dance or share if you feel unlovable. How can you lead properly if you feel unlovable. The very emotion that should empower you to walk in mercy and empathy is love.
If I feel I can't be loved
If I feel I don't deserve love
or, If I feel I will never have love... how could I possibly lead others in love?
I hope this picture I am attempting to paint is coming together for you...
LOVE MUST LEAD THE WAY. I must know that I am loved and I am capable of being loved in order to share with the world who I am fully & authentically.
My second poetry book will be published next month and it is all about love. Why? Because it is the 1st & 2nd commandments. It entails these three things:
Love God
Love Your Neighbor
Love You
So, obviously the enemy would attack your ability to feel loved, because how can you love God and love your neighbor if you don't feel loved. UGH! I can go onnnn and onnnn about this but I will spare you my rambling and instead as you a few questions?
Do you know you are loved?
Do you know you are lovable?
Do you feel loved?
Do you feel you deserve love?
How has your view of love been attacked?
May you feel the warmth of never ending love today !
