Pay Attention

When I attempt to add a tab on my Internet Search Engine, I am immediately flooded by the Evil of our current state. I am usually sucked in by a story of a young teen being murdered in the streets, mass shootings all over the place or a mother who snapped and killed her children. After a few minutes of endless scrolling, I find myself burdened, heavy and defeated. My hope in humanity deflated and the fear for my children heightened.

What I am most embarrassed by is our familiarity with the tragedy that there is not pause for reflection. There was an article about the Halftime show and then an article about a mass shooting and then an article about Patrick Mahomes wife and then an article about a mother being murdered on Valentines Day. We are EVERYWHERE. I didn't know whether to read, cry or just cut the computer off.

We are so accustomed to the tragedy that we don't bat an eye. I thought about the people who lost a family member, the children who will always remember their mother on Valentines Day and the city where the mass shooter had not been taken into custody. I stopped to think about these people and how tragedy had personally affected them. I did this because if we do not do this we continue to be "used to" the devastation in and throughout our world.

Pay Attention. This world is devastating. If you get sucked into a random scrolling put it down, take a moment to reflect and balance yourself back out.

Pay Attention to how you feel when you're reading these articles or watching these stories.

Do not let the Evil overcome you but do not ignore that which is there!
